Residents of Amarata community in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, have been thrown into a state of confusion following cobra snakes’ invasion of their area.
One of the cobras was found in a vehicle parked by its owner in a mechanic workshop for repairs.
Our source reports that the sudden appearances of the snakes have led some residents to flee their places of abode as the reptiles have kept on with their invasion following the consistent rainfalls and floods experienced in many parts of the capital.
Some of the affected residents at the Apex Academy Road of Amarata community on Imgbi Road, also discovered a giant cobra over the weekend, and gathered to kill it.
One of the residents of the community, simply identified as Chidera, explained that: “At about 7am, the owner of the vehicle, Emmanuel, called an auto repairer to fix the vehicle but discovered a large snake hiding in the vehicle.
“The man rushed to call some residents of the area to assist him. Some youth gathered and killed the snake,” Chidera said.
Also speaking, another resident, Joshua, who blamed the persistent rainfall for the unprecedented presence of snakes in the community, explained that, :“Some weeks ago, I saw a huge cobra at the back of my house in the morning. Attempts to kill the cobra failed as it was ready to strike.”
However, a local snake expert, Festus Ogienwon, has appealed to residents of the area to watch their movements, especially at night, and counselled them to ensure they close their doors tightly before going to bed.
Waoh, people can't even live peacefully in their own home. there's hunger strike, and now snake invasion. Nigeria!!
