The political crisis that has been rocking Mkpat Enin Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, in recent time, is now a thing of the past following the timely intervention of the state Governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
It would be recalled that for some time now, Mkpat Enin has been plunged into series of crises following the intense struggle for political leadership and the exclusion of Ikpa Ikono Clan from the composition of the current LGA’s Caretaker Transition Committee.
According to a reliable source, Governor Udom Emmanuel recently held a meeting with stakeholders from the area where he asserted his authority, and told the people that he, as the governor and leader of the state, will assume the political leadership of the area.
"Governor Udom clearly said that there should not be anything like a political leader in Mkpat Enin again; that he, the governor has taken over the leadership, and advised all the stakeholders to work with the recognized institutions", the source said.
Addressing the issue of the exclusion of Ikpa Ikono Clan from the caretaker transition committee, the governor promised that the clan will be compensated with an appointment into a board in the state, urging the people of the area to always seek peaceful ways of settling their differences.
"The governor promised that Mkpat Enin is key to his government, and that he will ensure that the area is properly carried along in his government. He urged the people to work with those in authority such as the state House of Assembly member, Hon. Otobong Ndem; the chairman and members of the caretaker transition committee and the traditional rulers’ council", the source added.
Meanwhile, in keeping to his promise, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has appointed Arc Aniefiok Smith, as a member of the Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (AKWSSEB), Arc. Smith is an indigene of Ikpa Ikono Clan.
