Okah said this after the court successfully evicted the illegal occupants of Orominike Housing Estate, D-line, Port Harcourt, who had held the state and the original owners of the houses to ransom for years.
In a well co-ordinated exercise carried out by officials of the Ministry of Housing, officers and men of the Nigeria Police, officials of the Deputy Sherriff, state High Court, and the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, the illegal occupants were evicted.
Re-affirming his warning, the commissioner stressed: “It is injustice for illegal occupants to deny the original allottees the opportunity to possess and use their houses, and at the same time pay no money to either the allottees or the state government.
“The worst being that they leave the property in the most horrible form of environmental and sanitary abuses, erecting shanties and providing hide-outs and cover for criminals”, he said.
He further warned that those who violate this warning will definitely face the music.
In the same vein, the Ministry of Housing has called of all original allottees in Orominike Housing Estate, who have not taken possession of their houses, to quickly go and possess their houses without further delay, and thereafter, proceed to the Ministry of Housing, today, to pay outstanding debts to Rivers State Government.
Meanwhile, all illegal occupants of Orije Housing Estate along Benin, Warri and Uyo streets have been given additional notice to tow the part of honour, obey subsisting court orders asking them to leave and vacate the property they occupy, warning that failure to do so will result in their eviction.
The commissioner added that the eviction of illegal occupants would rapidly move to other government quarters in Rivers State.
