Edo Poll: Party Agents To Display INEC IDs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Thursday, announced it readiness to issue identity cards to agents of the various political parties contesting in September 28 governorship election in Edo State.
The INEC National Commissioner in charge of South-South, Dr Mustapha Lecky, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
He said that only party agents issued with the INEC identification card would be allowed at polling stations to supervise the election.
“We are going to issue identification cards to party agents that will be at the various polling units.
“This ID card will have the picture of the party agents printed on it and if you don’t have this card you will not be allowed at the polling unit.
“This idea is to identify those who will be at the polling units across the state and to ensure transparent process,” Lecky said.
The INEC commissioner explained that the postponement of the election was in the best interest of the people, adding that the commission would never put the lives of its officials and the electorates at risk.
He assured that the election would be free, fair, credible and transparent. “INEC is fully ready to conduct credible and transparent election in Edo State.
“Though it will cost us more in the training of our staff, but we assure that INEC will deliver credible election come September 28,” he said.
